Lash FAQ

This section addresses new lash clients. If you have existing lash extensions from another salon, please read about our Transfer Fill appointments here. Your first appointment for lash extensions will be a Full or a Partial Set and can be booked over the phone or by clicking our “Book Appointment” button directly on our website. Once you have received your initial set, “Fills” are needed every 2-4 weeks for as long as you wish to keep your extensions. Fills are typically booked for an hour and are meant to maintain your current eyelash extension look.  Extended fill appointments are able to be booked if you want to change the direction or add fullness to your lash extensions. At Siren & Proper we train our lash artist from the ground up, so lower pricing options are available with those artists who are working to build their speed and skill.  Please call the salon to check availability.

Please note that lash extensions are only applied to the upper lash line only. Lower lashes can be applied upon request with addition time & pricing. They are not usually recommended.

Unlike traditional false strip lashes, eyelash extensions have quickly become the first modernized option for lash lengthening, which can be worn daily without nightly removal. Applied to the base of each of your natural lashes one-by-one using a specially formulated adhesive, eyelash extensions are an elegant way to extend the length, thickness and curl of your natural eyelashes, making them a functional, convenient and glamourous substitute to the daily use of applying mascara.

After a full set of lashes has been applied, fill appointments are needed to maintain the lashes. Your natural lashes go through a shedding cycle, therefore your extensions fall off with them.  Fills allow your lash artist to apply lash extensions to natural lashes that have recently grown in.  When applied by a professional, fills are needed every 2-4 weeks, depending on your activity and day-to- day routine.

Partial sets are not designed for to keep up. They are a short-term, temporary option for special occasions, vacations, etc. Full sets are for those who wish have the convenience of extensions in their daily lives for a long period of time. Read more about the differences here. The overall look and design of your lash set is fully customizable and is decided after a consultation with your lash artist the day of your appointment. Bringing in photos of lashes you like is always helpful.

We recommend getting a fill every 2-3 weeks. A lash fill is needed to compensate for any lashes that have fallen due to the natural cycle of your own lashes. Fill appointments require approximately 60-90 minutes.

One of the many benefits of eyelash extensions is that you do not need to use mascara. If you still feel like mascara is needed, then you may need to re-discuss your set design with your lash artist.

In the rare case of an eyelash gap emergency, apply a water-soluble mascara no further than halfway down your lash extensions, avoiding the base. DO NOT USE WATER-PROOF MASCARA as it can breakdown the adhesive bond or cause premature shedding to accelerate.

Mascara can still be used on the lower lashes at any time.

When applied by a professional, eyelash extensions will not harm your natural lashes. Proper application and technique allows for natural lashes to grow and flourish while having lash extensions on. Our artists are specifically trained to perform “separation” several times during the application process, so each extension is attached to only a single natural lash in order to prevent disruption of the eyelash growth cycle. This technique, along with using proper isolation techniques and never applying extensions that are too heavy for the natural lashes ensure that you can wear your lash extensions by Siren & Proper for years on end without the need to take a break.

Do not pull on your lashes

• Use recommended make-up remover or lash wash to remove makeup daily. Ask your lash artist about recommended products.

• Avoid rubbing your eyes excessively.

• Brush lashes daily with a clean lash wand to ensure lashes look their best and to rid any loose lashes. Reusable, covered lash wands are available for purchase, ask your lash artist for more info.

• Do not do anything to alter the curl of your lashes (perm, mechanical curler, etc.)

• Keep lashes away from extreme heat (ovens, bonfires, grills, etc)

• Avoid mascara and gel eyeliners on your lash extensions.

• Try your best to not sleep on your lashes

Yes. All lash extension adhesives are all acrylate based. This means they are waterproof and oil proof, thus allowing you to shower, swim, exercise, and go about your daily activities immediately after your appointment. The myth of avoiding water and oils after your appointments is an outdated one.

This is an out dated myth in the lash industry. At Siren & Proper we inform our clients that there are no restrictions of avoiding oil & water after receiving eyelash extensions services. If you are curious on how to keep your leashes clean and care for them, we carry retail products that will aid in keeping your lashes clean and fresh, thus allowing for better retention.

For your initial first visit, a full set normally takes 2.5-3 hours. Fill appointments can be booked for 60 or 90 minutes (every 2-3 weeks).

Yes, they can easily be removed by your lash artist using a special solution that dissolves the adhesive bond without harming your natural lashes  Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own as you could damage your natural lashes.

Yes. Your lash artist will hold a consultation at the beginning of your full set appointment and discuss with you what look you are trying to achieve with your lash extensions. Lash extensions come in an array of lengths, thicknesses, curl strengths, and colors. Each lash artist also has a slightly different style of application with her individual strong suits. Due to these variables, lash extension sets are extremely versatile and can be as natural or dramatic as you wish as long as your natural eyelashes are healthy/long/abundant enough to support the overall look you desire.

It is important to keep in mind that these appointments are 1-3 hours long, you will be lying down and unable to open your eyes, and finally, that lash extensions will NOT stick to dirty eyelashes. Our locations provide a station to wash your eye makeup off if you are unable to do so before coming in for your appointment. Simply ask the receptionist to point you in the right direction.

Please DO the following:

• Thoroughly wash your face and lashes before your appointment

• Use the restroom

• Spit out your gum or mint

• If you prefer, you may bring in headphones to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, etc during your appointments.

Please do NOT do the following:

• Drink caffeine

• Come in with dirty lashes or makeup on your eyelids

If a child must accompany you to your appointment please ensure they are able to self-entertain. Please provide headphones for your child if they are using an iPad or similar device so as not to disrupt other guests.

Yes. Lash extensions are applied with your eyes closed and do not touch your skin or eyes. Therefore, they will not interfere with your contacts or normal daily activities.

No, a lash lift service is not able to be performed while you have eyelash extensions on and should not be necessary since the extensions themselves are permanently curled.

However, a tint can be applied over lash extensions with he purpose of darkening the natural lashes which would help them blend into the extensions better.

Adding a tint to your lashes would require additional time and cost.

Fill appointments from clients who have had their extensions applied elsewhere are welcome. We call these appointments “Transfer Fills” and they are booked for 90 minutes automatically. Working over lash extensions applied elsewhere is a gamble and not always easy. This little bit of extra time is our cushion to ensure we leave you with satisfactory to excellent work no matter the state of the lashes you are coming in with.
90 minute Transfer Fills can be changed to standard 60 Minute Fills if you regularly bounce between the same salons for lash extension fills and we become familiar with the artists work you are coming in with. This will have to be a discussion between you and your lash artist here at Siren & Proper.
